Fabulous set of 7 cabinet or dinner plates, 10 3/4″ in diameter, with gold trimmed and embossed ivory rims, a wide circle of colbalt blue comes next, then a circle of gold with embossed ivory repeats and the center is filled with colorful flowers: roses, sunflowers, dogwoods, iris, pansies, daisies and more. Three of the plates have identical designs of a large rose with a bouquet of mixed flowers and four have a large Sunflower with a bouquet of mixed flowers. This adds interest to the plates and they go together beautifully. These will look spectacular displayed in a china cabinet–and of course a table setting would get rave reviews. They are in pristine condition with just a very tiny loss of color in the colbalt ring on three of the plates. They are marked on the reverse with the Tirschenreuth Bavaria mark and Decorated In Own Studio as pictured. They date from C 1903 to 1927.

We’re offering a Murano Venetian Ribbon Glass Bell with Latticino Canes. It is extremely colorful with shades of red, green, pink, blue and yellow. The clapper is crystal a gives a loud ring when picked up. The beautiful hand blown glass bell is excellent condition without any chips cracks or repairs. The measurements are 5-½” high x 3 ¾” diameter.
Over 500 years ago the Venetians rediscovered and developed new techniques in the production of murrini, millifiori and filigree glass that were over 2000 years old and originally invented in Mesopotamia in the Middle East. These techniques were refined by the Serino brothers who held a patent on the process for 10 years before others on the island were allowed to use their techniques and imitate their style. Prior to the 1600’s, these techniques were shrouded in mystery, having been kept a guarded secret on the island of Murano in the Venetian Lagoon. Glass wares created in Murano were commonly given to royalty and dignitaries from around the globe. It is because of this mystery and their highly skilled abilities that the Venetians are renowned to this day for their glass.

We’re offering a full spelter metal casting pair of bookends painted gold on the entire figure, seat, sheet music and piano. The key board is celluloid which the JB Hirsch Foundry is noted for. The black base is spelter metal painted black. The bookends are signed JB H on the front of the piano and also signed by the sculptor J.Ruhl on the seat. They are in excellent condition with just a small loss of gold paint on the front of the piano.

The JB Hirsch story begins in 1907 with the New York Art Bronze Works in Manhattan’s lower east side. The founder of the company, Romanian metal smith, Joseph B. Hirsch, began importing pieces directly from French foundries. Around that period, foundries with close ties to the talented artists and sculptors of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, began producing their now famous works in “French Bronze.” Some of the finest talent throughout Europe trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, exhibiting their works at the Salon de Artistes and other great Salons in Paris, the center of the art world.

Between the wars, during the 1920s and 1930s, an entirely new modern style of decorative art emerged, using a combination of bronze and ivory. With the ban of ivory in the early 1930s, ivorine or celluloid (predecessor of plastic) was used in its place. The ivory or ivorine representing exposed flesh and the bronze or spelter representing clothing. The combination of “French Bronze” (spelter) and ivory or ivorine were fully exploited during the Deco period using events of discovery (opening of King Tut’s Tomb in the 1920s), celebrities, athletes (1936 Olympics), children, the fashions and costumes of the period by Erte and Gerdago, and dancers from the Ballet Russe.
The Beethoven bookends are 5 ½” high x 4 ¼” wide x 5 ½” deep and weigh 7 1/2lbs for the pair.
